MAVERIK ACQUIRES BEST STOP C-STORES

SALT LAKE CITY, UT. — Maverik Inc. has acquired Best Stop convenience stores in a deal that was completed in October. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Included in the sale were Best Stop's four stores, with two sites in Logan, UT., one in North Logan, UT., and one in Franklin, ID.

"Dave Bessinger and his family have owned and operated Best Stop since opening the first Logan store in 1975, exclusively serving the Cache Valley community. Support from the community was phenomenal in 1975 and Dave was able to open more stores over the years," said Aaron Simpson, vice president of Maverik, announcing the deal. "Dave said that three elements have supported his success over the years: family, employees, and the Cache Valley community and he is thankful for this support."

He added, "Maverik has been a part of the community in Cache Valley for a long time and we are excited to continue our growth there with these four stores."

Maverik plans to remodel and rebrand the locations as well as offer jobs to the former Best Stop employees.

RELADYNE ACQUIRES J.C. HUNT COMPANY

BLANDING, UT. — J.C. Hunt Company, also doing business as BCL Distributing, has been acquired by RelaDyne of Cincinnati, OH., effective as of mid-October. The purchase price for the deal was not disclosed.

Founded in 1986, J.C. Hunt distributed fuel and lubricants in Utah and the Rocky Mountain territory as well as offering freight and cargo distribution services under the leadership of Carl Hunt. The company is now part of the RelaDyne operations and RelaDyne stated the majority of employees will be offered positions with their firm.

This acquisition continues to extend RelaDyne's market share and delivery capabilities across Utah and the Southwest region of the U.S. The company has been acquiring and consolidating jobberships in the greater Rocky Mountain area for the last three years including Western Marketing Inc., Cardwell Distributing, and, in January, Conservancy Oil Group with four locations in New Mexico and Colorado.

"Our partnership with RelaDyne is an exciting new venture for our employees and our customers," said Carl Hunt, former owner of J.C. Hunt Company. "We are confident that partnering with RelaDyne will take our business to the next level and provide opportunities for our employees that did not previously exist.

"We have known the RelaDyne team in this area for a long time and have a lot of respect for their people and their culture as a well-established and reputable marketer of lubricants, fuels, and related products and services," he added.

"The acquisition of J.C. Hunt Company and the addition of Carl and his team signifies the immense growth opportunity and our strategic goal to strengthen our distribution footprint in the West," stated Larry Stoddard, RelaDyne president and CEO, announcing the deal.

"We are continually looking to acquire businesses with great people and service levels like J.C. Hunt/BCL Distributing. Carl has been a fixture in the Utah Petroleum Marketers Association, and we are thrilled to have him and his team join the RelaDyne family," added RelaDyne Chief Strategic Officer Jeff Hart. "RelaDyne remains dedicated to acquiring great companies as we continue to create a national distribution platform."

RelaDyne was formed in 2010 and has since grown to more than 60 locations nationwide by strategically acquiring other firms in the lubricant, fuel distribution, and industrial service business.

HALLUM SELLS STATIONS TO JACKSON ENERGY

SCOTTSDALE, AZ. — Service station operator Hallum Inc. has sold its service station network to Jackson Energy of Meridian, ID. The purchase price for the sale, which was completed in November, was not disclosed.

Included in the deal were Hallum's Arizona service stations and convenience stores including two in Flagstaff, two in Prescott, and one each in Cottonwood, Kingman, and Pinetop. The convenience stores operate under the Hallum Food Stores brand.

Fuel supply agreements with Chevron, 76, Conoco, and VP are also part of the deal.

"After a comprehensive review of our operations and studying the current consolidation activity among c-store retailers and jobbers, it was clear that this was an opportune time to exit the business," said Steven Hallum, who operated the company along with his brother, David Hallum. Their father, Wayne, founded the service station company in Flagstaff in 1972.

UNITED PACIFIC ACQUIRES 39 STATIONS FROM MACLAND

LONG BEACH, CA. — United Pacific has added another 39 convenience stores and gasoline stations to its operations.

In a deal announced at the end of October, United Pacific is acquiring the sites from Macland Investments of Ventura, CA., headed by company President Bhupinder Mac. The price for the properties was not disclosed.

Included in the sale are 32 service stations in Los Angeles County with an additional seven sites in Orange, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties operating under the 76, Chevron, and Shell brands. Also included in the sale are seven car washes and five quick-service restaurants.

United Pacific said they plan to keep on "most of" the Macland employees following the close of the sale.

"The addition of Macland's stores to the United Pacific retail network significantly strengthens our company," said Joe Juliano, United Pacific CEO, announcing the deal. "We are excited about bringing such a high-quality convenience store portfolio and talented and loyal group of employees into the United Pacific family. The addition of the Macland stores also expands our retail presence in Southern California, which remains a core growth area for United Pacific."

With the addition of the Macland stations, United Pacific will operate 365 company-operated stores and 55 dealer stations.
