S.F. Seeks a Pier 54 Hydrogen Station

CARDWELL DISTRIBUTING ACQUIRED BY RELADYNE

MIDVALE, UT. — Cardwell Distributing, based here, has been acquired by RelaDyne of Cincinnati, OH. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Cardwell distributes gasoline, diesel, DEF, and lubricants including Shell, Chevron, Sinclair, Flying J, and Tesoro brands in the territory of Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming.

"Cardwell is a significant geographic expansion into the Western US for RelaDyne," stated Larry Stoddard, president and CEO of RelaDyne. "Cardwell has a long history, a great team and a strong culture, which are all positive attributes as we expand our geography. We welcome the entire Cardwell team to the RelaDyne family of companies and are truly excited to partner with this talented group to significantly grow the business both organically and through acquisitions."

Bill Rawson, who had been serving as CEO of Cardwell, will continue to work for the company to "ensure a smooth transition for both employees and customers."

Rawson stated, "With RelaDyne as our new partner, we will have the resources needed to allow our great team of employees to continue to grow our business, our service offering and our geographic footprint. It is clear that the history and heritage of Cardwell, our values and the culture we have built over generations perfectly aligns with those of RelaDyne. Our team is extremely excited about the partnership and the opportunities that lie ahead."

Cardwell had been a fuel distributor in the Rocky Mountain territory since 1964. The company is RelaDyne's sixth acquisition of 2016.

IPAC TO OPEN NEW PLANT IN FRESNO

DUBLIN, CA. — International Petroleum Products & Additives Company, based here, has announced that they are opening a new lubricant blending, manufacturing, and distribution facility in Fresno, CA.

"When SC Fuels announced they were shutting down the blending facility in the former Coast Oil plant in San Jose, we were a casualty of that decision," explained Jeff Melendez, director of Finished Lubricants at IPAC. "We decided to go ahead and fill that void and offer something new in the marketplace. Now we're excited about the opening of our new facility in Fresno. It's new for California."

The Fresno plant will offer lubricant blending as well as grease manufacturing and production of diesel exhaust fluid. The facility also includes an 80,000 gallon tank farm as well as a 40,000 square foot warehouse with five loading docks and rail car access.

"It's all in-house," said Melendez. "We're doing everything direct with our own technicians and our own raw materials. Our tech lab was built over the top of the production floor so they can oversee production."

He added, "It's exciting. Nothing new has been around for a long time in the lubricants world."

The IPAC plant is scheduled to open in October.

S.F. SEEKS A PIER 54 HYDROGEN STATION

SAN FRANCISCO, CA. — The City of San Francisco is looking for developers to build a hydrogen station to service both automobiles and boats on the San Francisco Pier.

The project would be the first step in the city's plan to develop a zero-emissions ferry service in the San Francisco Bay.

"The Port of San Francisco enthusiastically supports the creation of an intermodal hydrogen fueling station on Port property," said Elaine Forbes, interim executive director of the Port. However, the Port would not develop the station — it would serve as landlord to the facility.

Port officials have supplied a letter of support for the project for those interested in seeking a grant from the California Energy Commission to help fund the station, estimated at a cost of $5 million.

According to the San Francisco Examiner, Steven Brooks of Retail Energy Now and Jonathan Avila of StratosFuel have expressed interest in developing the site.
